IPMAT or the IPM Aptitude test is one of the top management exams in India. It is the entryway to the unique IIM Indore 5 year integrated BA+MBA seats. This article consists of some important details about the exam.
About IIM Indore
IIM Indore was instituted in 1996 when it became the sixth addition to the Indian Institute of Management family of management schools. As per NIRF rankings 2019, it is the fifth-best management school in India. Visit the official website to find out more.
About the course
IIM IPM, or the Integrated Programme in Management is a full time, five year regular course offered by IIM Indore. An integrated diploma in management is awarded upon successful completion of the course. Read more about the course and its uniqueness here.

Selection Process
The selection process is triple-tiered. You will be selected based on your overall performance in Aptitude Test (IPMAT), Written Ability Test (WAT) and Personal Interview (PI).
Aptitude Test Score for IPMAT is done in the following manner:

IPMAT Exam Pattern
- Time Duration: 2 hours
- Sections: Quantitative ability and verbal ability
- Total Questions: 100
- Question Type: Objective (MCQs) and short answers
Important: Please note that you would have to attempt the sections in a pre-specified order. For IPMAT, first, you will have to attempt MCQs of Quantitative Aptitude section, then short answers of Quantitative Aptitude section and then lastly, MCQs of Verbal Ability section.

Marking Scheme
Marking scheme for IPMAT for the MCQ questions of Quantitative Aptitude and Verbal Ability:
- Each correct answer will give you score of +4 marks
- Each wrong answer will give you a score of -1 mark.
For short answers of Quantitative Aptitude there is no negative marking.
Written Ability Test (WAT)
In the Written Ability Test the IPMAT, you would have to write an essay on topics of current relevance. So make sure you are well-versed with what is happening in the world around you.
- Duration: 30 minutes
- Word Limit: 150-250 Words
Personal Interview (PI)

Admission Process
- Register online: You have to first register online and fill in all personal and academic details in the IPMAT application form well before the deadline for application submissions. Please keep your application form number, registered ID and password safe for future reference.
- Pay the registration fees: Fees is Rs. 4130 for students of general/NC-OBC categories and Rs. 2065 for reserved category students. The fees is payable online only, through debit/credit cards and netbanking
- Download admit card: If you have registered successfully, your admit card should be accessible on the website at least one week prior to your IPMAT. Now’s the time to use the registered ID and password you saved earlier to access it! 😉
- Appear for IPMAT: Appear for your 2 hour long IPMAT. Don’t forget to carry your admit card!
- Check results: IPMAT result is usually declared within 10-15 days of the exam. Check your IPMAT result on the official website using your application form number, date of birth and email ID.
- Appear for WAT and PI: Candidates who clear the IPMAT are then called in for a written test and a personal interview conducted by a panel from IIM-Indore.

Exam Centres
IPMAT exam is conducted in as many as 34 cities all over India. These are listed by IIM Indore and need to selected by you carefully while registering for the exam. However, please note that final allocation of exam centre depends on the availability of seats. In unavoidable cases, you may be allotted a center nearest to your city of preference.
In IPMAT 2020, these centers were Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh/ Mohali, Chennai, Dehradun, Delhi, Faridabad, Ghaziabad, Gurugram, Guwahati, Gwalior, Hyderabad, Indore, Jaipur, Kolkata, Kozhikode, Lucknow, Ludhiana, Meerut, Mumbai, Nagpur, Noida, Patna, Pune, Raipur, Ranchi, Roorkee, Siliguri, Thiruvananthapuram, Udaipur, Varanasi and Visakhapatnam.
WAT and PI are conducted in seven cities, namely Bengaluru, Chennai,
Delhi, Hyderabad, Indore, Kolkata, and Mumbai.
IIM Indore IPM Fees
- The tuition fee for the first 3 years: Rs. 4 Lakhs per annum
- Course fee for 4th and 5th year: Rs.16 Lakhs
Course Curriculum
The IIM Indore integrated course will give you a holistic education related to management. It follows a trimester system and has 3 terms in a year. Each term is 3 months long.
The IIM Indore integrated course is conducted in two parts. The first three years focus on building a foundation, and the last two years focus on management.
Major elements of the foundation course of IIM IPM are:
- Courses in Mathematics, Statistics and Economics to build analytical rigour.
- Courses in Psychology, Sociology, Political Science and Economics to build a base knowledge on principles of management.
- Courses in Humanities, Literature and Fine Arts for holistic development.
The last two years of integrated MBA in IIM focus on the management syllabus followed by post graduate students.
