1st June

World Milk Day

International Sex Workers Day

On 2nd June 1975, around 100 sex workers occupied at Sant-Nizier Church in Lyon, France, to protest against their exploitative living and working conditions. The ensuing raid led to a national movement, marking the International Sex Workers Day, to promote dignity and better living conditions for the community.

Telangana Formation Day

Telangana, the 29th state of India, celebrates its formation on 2nd June with various events and cultural activities. The formation of the state happened after 50 years of struggle by its people.

World Bicycle Day

World Oceans Day

World Day Against Child Labour

World Day Against Child Labour was launched by International Labour Organisation (ILO) to focus attention on the global pandemic of child labour, ongoing efforts and the required remedial actions.

International Albinism Awareness Day

International Albinism Awareness Day (IAAD) is celebrated every year on 13th June to celebrate the human rights of albino persons worldwide. This day started due to a number of attacks on people with albinism in Tanzania in the mid-2000s. After a lot of protests and movements by NGOs, the United Nations General Assembly adopted 13th June 2015 as the first IAAD.

Martyrdom of Guru Arjan Dev

16th June commemorates the martyrdom of Guru Arjan Dev, the fifth guru of the Sikhs. He was tortured and sentenced to death upon the orders of Mughal Emperor Jahangir on 16th June 1606. Accordingly, on 16 June every year, the Sikhs commemorate the martyrdom of Guru Arjan Dev.

World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought

Desertification and droughts are a big ecological threat to the human species and other beings around us. This day was declared by the United Nations General Assembly in 1994.

Summer Solstice

Summer Solstice is the day when Earth’s North Pole tilts directly towards the sun, at about an angle of 23.4 degrees. This is also known as the northern solstice because the sun is directly over the Tropic of Cancer. This day is the longest day in India.

Asteroid Day commemorates this day and generates awareness about asteroids via online education about the topic. This is a United Nations-sanctioned day.
