International Internet Day
International Internet Day is observed globally on 29th October.
The day honours the sending of the 1st electronic message which was conveyed from one computer to another computer in the year 1969.
Charley Kline, a student programmer at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), discovered the transmission of first-ever electronic message in the world ‘LO’ on 29th October 1969
During that era, the Internet was called ARPANET (Advanced Research Projects Agency Network).

Air launched version of BrahMos missile test fired by Indian Air Force
The Indian Air Force has successfully test fired an air-launched version of the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile.
The missile was test-fired from the Sukhoi fighter aircraft in the Bay of Bengal.
The missile had successfully hit a sinking ship with pin-point accuracy.
The Sukhoi fighter jet belongs to Tigersharks squadron and it took off from a frontline air base in Punjab.
Quick Fact: The Indian Air Force (IAF) has collaborated with the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile for over 40 Sukhoi fighter jets.

National Unity Day: 31 October
Rashtriya Ekta Diwas or National Unity Day is observed all over the country every year on October 31.
The day commemorates the birth anniversary of the Iron Man of India, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
This year marks the 145th anniversary of the great leader.
He was the first Home Minister and Deputy Prime Minister of Independent India.
Quick Fact: The title ‘Sardar’ was bestowed on Vallabhbhai Patel by Women of Bardoli.

14th Asian Film Awards 2020
Asian Film Awards was organized by the Asian Film Awards Academy.
This was the 14th edition of the Awards.
Indian movie Gully Boy received the award for the Best Original Score
Parasite (South Korea) won the award for best film.

Annual Status of Education Report (ASER) 2020 for Rural India
The Annual Status of Education Report (ASER) for Rural India was released.
The survey was done in 26 states and 4 Union Territories.
According to the survey around 20 percent of children in rural areas had no access to textbooks.
As per the report, around one in three rural children had not involved in learning activity at all.
Quick Fact: It was released by an autonomous research and assessment unit Pratham Education Foundation.

New Zealand votes in favour of legalising euthanasia
The citizens of New Zealand have voted in favor of illegalizing the euthanasia for people with a terminal illness.
The decision was taken after a lot campaigns were organised that were saying that people who are suffering extreme pain should be given a choice of how and when they want to bring their life to an end.
Euthanasia is the practice of ending a life to relieve pain and suffering intentionally although different countries defines euthanasia differently.
Euthanasia has been categorized into voluntary, non-voluntary and involuntary.

National Program and Project Management Policy Framework launched
The NITI Aayog and Quality Council of India has launched the ‘National Program and Project Management Policy Framework’ (NPMPF).
The objective of the framework is to bring radical reforms in the way infrastructure projects are executed in India.
The NPMPF will help the nation realise the Prime Minister’s vision of an Aatmanirbhar Bharat.
The framework will ensure the quality infrastructure by reducing costs and waste material.

Multi-purpose smart card launched by DMRC & SBI card
A contactless multi-purpose card was launched the SBI Card in association with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).
The card will function as a credit card as well as a Delhi Metro card.
The Delhi Metro SBI Card has been designed for regular commuters on Delhi Metro.
The card will enable its users to use it as a smart card with an auto-top up facility whenever the balance is below Rs 100.
