Nagaland’s Hornbill Festival begins
The biggest cultural extravaganza of Nagaland, the Hornbill Festival has kicked off at the Naga Heritage village Kisama.
The 22nd edition of the Hornbill festival will be celebrated in 6 districts of Nagaland.
The festival was held for the first time in 2000.

BSNL to roll out its 4G services by September 2022
Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) will roll out its 4G services by September 2022.
The government has approved the revival plan for BSNL and MTNL for providing 4G services with funding through budgetary allocation.
Incremental revenue of INR 900 crores to BSNL is expected in the first year of pan India 4G operations.

WHO confirms ‘Omicron’ COVID-19 variant in 23 countries
The World Health Organization (WHO) DG Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has confirmed the ‘Omicron’ COVID-19 variant in 23 countries.
WHO has stated that a mix of low vaccination coverage and low testing rates are creating fertile breeding grounds for the new COVID variants.
The travel bans will not prevent the spread of the Omicron variant of coronavirus and they place a heavy burden on lives and livelihoods.

India beats Belgium to enter semi-finals of Junior Hockey World Cup
Defending champions India beat Belgium by a solitary goal (1-0) to enter the semifinals in the FIH Junior Men’s Hockey World Cup held at Kalinga Stadium, Odisha.
Apart from India, Germany, Argentina, and France have qualified for the semi-finals.
In the 2016 edition, India defeated Belgium in the finals to clinch the winning title.

Lionel Messi wins the Men’s Ballon d’Or for a record seventh time
Argentina football player Lionel Messi (34 years) has won the men’s Ballon d’Or for a record seventh time.
Messi led Argentina to the Copa America title in July after losing four major International finals.
Apart from this, Barcelona’s Alexia Putellas (27 years) has won the women’s Ballon d’Or.
Quick Facts: The Ballon d’Or awards are given by France Football magazine every year since 1956.

Nagaland launches ‘Call your Cop’ mobile App
Nagaland DGP T. John Longkumer has officially launched the ‘Call your Cop’ mobile App at the Police headquarters in Kohima
The app will enable all citizens of the state especially those in distress to get in touch directly with police easily with just one click.
The app feature includes a directory, alerts, tourist tips, SOS, and police station searches.
Quick Facts: Kohima is the capital of Nagaland.

Skill India launches programme to upskill Street Food Vendors
The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) has announced to skill street vendors of East Delhi.
The program will make them eligible for e-cart licenses, improve the hygiene conditions in food preparation in the formalized unorganized sector and upskill them.
The program will be implemented by the Tourism and Hospitality Sector Skill Council (THSSC) and NSDC.
