India-Sri Lanka to take part in ‘Mitra Shakti 21’ Exercise
India and Sri Lanka are set to participate in the bilateral joint exercise called Mitra Shakti.
The 8th edition of the annual exercise will be held at Combat Training School, Ampara in Sri Lanka.
In the joint exercise, all arms contingent of 120 personnel from the Indian Army will participate along with the battalion of Sri Lanka.
Quick Fact: India is separated by Sri Lanka by the Palk Strait.

India wins Bronze at Asian Table Tennis Championships
The Indian Men’s table tennis team has won the bronze medal at the Asian Table Tennis Championships recently.
The Indian team won bronze after losing to South Korea by 0-3 in the semi-finals.
The Asian Table tennis Championship is a biennial table tennis tournament and is regarded as a continental championship by ITTF.
Quick Fact: The full form of ITTF is the “International Table Tennis Federation”.

World Bank provides USD 150 million to Chennai’s Sustainable Urban Services
The World Bank has approved about USD 150 million programs to support Chennai’s Sustainable Urban Services and to turn it into a world-class city.
The program will fulfill Tamil Nadu’s vision of making Chennai a greener, liveable, and much climate-resilient city.
The partnership will strengthen four key urban services- Water supply & sewerage, Mobility, Health, and Solid Waste Management.

Piyush Goyal inaugurates Indian Pavilion at Dubai Expo 2020
Union Minister Piyush Goyal has inaugurated a state-of-the-art 8750 sq. meter Indian pavilion at the Dubai Expo 2020.
The hi-tech Indian Pavilion is a civilization confluence of ancient Indian as well as future India.
The pavilion has been installed with the theme of ‘India on the move’ and ‘India the diverse’.

World’s Largest Khadi National flag hoisted in Leh, Ladakh
World’s Largest National Flag made up of Khadi was installed in Leh, Ladakh on the occasion of the 152nd Birth Anniversary of Mahatama Gandhi.
The Indian tri-color flag is 225-feet long and 150-feet wide weighing around 1,000 kgs.
The flag has been made by Khadi Dyers and Printers based in Mumbai.
Quick Facts: The current Indian tri-color was designed by Pingali Venkayya.

Delhi-based LIFE organisation to receive 2021 Right Livelihood Award
A Delhi-based environmental organization ‘Legal Initiative for Forest and Environment (LIFE)’ has been facilitated with the 2021 Right Livelihood Award.
LIFE was awarded for its grassroots approach of empowering vulnerable communities to protect their livelihood.
The award is also known as Sweden’s alternative noble prize, comes with a cash prize of 1 million Swedish crowns (USD 115,000).

Clean India Programme: A month long nation wide programme
Union Minister Anurag Thakur has launched a month-long nationwide cleanliness drive ‘Clean India Programme’ as part of Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav.
The program is aimed at creating awareness and mobilizing people to clean waste and will run till October 31st.
The program propagates the mantra of Clean India: Safe India.
