NITI Aayog and WRI jointly launch ‘Forum for Decarbonizing Transport’
NITI Aayog and the World Resources Institute (WRI) have collaborated to launch the ‘Forum for Decarbonizing Transport’ in India.
The project aims to lower the peak level of GHG emissions in Asia (transport sector) in line with a well below 2-degree global average temperature rise pathway.
The Forum launched under the NDC-Transport Initiative for Asia project will be implemented in India by NITI Aayog.

Infosys becomes the fourth Indian firm to reach USD 100 billion market capitilisation milestone
The shares of IT major, Infosys hit a record high which helped the company to cross the USD 100 billion in market capitalization
Infosys is the fourth Indian company to achieve this milestone.
Reliance Industries, Tata Consultancy Services, and HDFC Bank are the three other Indian firms in the club that crossed the USD 100 billion mark before Infosys.

Copenhagen tops EIU’s Safe Cities Index 2021
The capital city of Denmark, Copenhagen has been named as the world’s safest city from among the 60 global cities in the Safe Cities Index 2021 released by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU).
Yangon is at the bottom of the Index as the least safe city.
From India, New Delhi and Mumbai have found a place in the Index being placed at the 48th and 50th positions respectively.

Princepal Singh becomes first indian to be part of NBA championship roster
Princepal Singh became the first Indian to be a part of an NBA title-winning team when his team Sacramento Kings clinched the 2021 NBA Summer League crown.
The 6-foot-9 forward made history by being the first Indian to be a part of a championship roster at any level of the NBA.
The Kings dominated the championship game against the Boston Celtics clinching the title with a 100-67 win.

Former National Foootball team coach SS Hakim passes away
Syed Shahid hakim, former Indian footballer and member of the last National team that played in the 1960 Rome Olympics passed away recently.
Popularly known as Hakim ‘saab’, he was also a Dronacharya Awardee and was an assistant coach to the late PK Banerjee, during the 1982 Asian Games in Delhi.
A former Squadron Leader of the Indian Air Force, Hakim was also a Regional Director of the Sports Authority of India.

Assam celebrates Wanchuwa Festival 2021
The Wanchuwa Festival is celebrated by the Tiwa tribesmen to mark their good harvest and involves singing, dancing, and a bunch of rituals with the tribal people in their native attires.
Tiwa, also known as Lalung, is an indigenous community inhabiting the states of Assam and Meghalaya, also found in Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur.
The Tiwa community is recognized as a Scheduled Tribe within the state of Assam and practice Jhum or shifting cultivation.

India’s evacuation mission from Afghanistan named as ‘Operation Devi Shakti’
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has given a name to India’s complex mission of evacuating citizens from war-torn Afghanistan as ‘Operation Devi Shakti’.
Inda began the complex mission by airlifting 40 Indians from Kabul to Delhi, a day after the Taliban seized control of the Afghan capital city.
So far, India has evacuated over 800 people amid a deteriorating security situation in Kabul and scramble by various nations to rescue their citizens.
