Following a huge election victory, Maltese Prime Minister Robert Abela was sworn in.
Robert Abela, the Prime Minister of Malta, has been sworn in for a second term after his ruling Labour Party gained a majority win in the general election of 2022.
President George Vella delivered the oath of office to him. After former Labour Party leader and Prime Minister Joseph Muscat resigned, Abela was sworn in as Prime Minister for the first time in January 2020.

Smriti Irani kicks off the huge Red Fort Festival ‘Bharat Bhagya Vidhata.’
Smriti Irani, the Union Minister for Women and Child Development, has launched the ten-day epic Red Fort Festival, ‘Bharat Bhagya Vidhata,’ at Red Fort in Delhi.
The Union Ministry of Culture organised the Red Fort celebration as part of the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.
The ceremony was organised in collaboration with the Dalmia Bharat Group (DBG), which has designated the Red Fort as their Monument Mitra.
Quick Fact: The festival will honour India’s past, culture, and diversity in all of its forms.
Appointments
Devendra Jhajharia Lt. Gen. Vinod G. Khandare has been appointed as a Defence Ministry Adviser.
Lieutenant General Vinod G. Khandare (retired) has been named Adviser at the Ministry of Defence, where he will provide strategic insights and advice to the Defence Secretary on topics relating to defence policy.
He will work closely with the Secretary of Defense, according to defence officials.
The mission of the position would be to provide strategic input and advice on subjects relating to defence strategy, readiness, and related operations such as the International Defense Corporation, maritime security, and defence space.
Quick Fact: From then until October 2021, Lt. Gen. Vinod G. served as the Military Adviser at the Prime Minister’s Office’s National Security Council Secretariat (NSCS).
Sports
PV Sindhu won the Swiss Open Badminton title in 2022.
P.V. Sindhu of India has won the Swiss Open Super 300 badminton tournament’s women’s singles title, defeating Thailand’s Busanan Ongbamrungphan.
Sindhu, a two-time Olympic medalist, won her second consecutive competition final in 49 minutes at the St. Jakobshalle, defeating fourth-seeded Busanan 21-16, 21-8.
Awards
At Wings India 2022, Cochin International Airport was named “Covid champion.”
At Wings India 2022, the Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL) received the ‘Covid champion’ award. Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia presented CIAL Managing Director S Suhas IAS with the Covid champion award.
During the epidemic, CIAL was recognised for successfully implementing a rigorous programme called “Mission Safeguarding” to ensure safe travel at Kochi Airport.
Quick Fact; The Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru took home two awards at the event, including the ‘Best Airport’ in the General Category and the ‘Aviation Innovation’ Award.
